Facility Rules
- All persons are required to obey Lifeguard and Aquaplex staff at all times. Staff are permitted to stop any behaviors they deem inappropriate or unsafe. Persons disregarding instructions given by a Lifeguard or other Aquaplex staff, may be required to leave the facility.
- All persons entering the facility must pay appropriate fees. Entry fees to the indoor facility is separate from Splashdown Park entry fees. All Day Pass sales are final – No refunds.
- All persons under the age of 8 must have a guardian (18+ years) in the water with them at all times.
- All persons under the age of 16 must have a guardian (18+ years) present on the pool deck or in the water.
- Appropriate swim attire, acceptable to the standards of the community must be worn. Thong back suits are not permitted. Individuals are not permitted to swim in their undergarments. No rivets, zippers, or buttons are permitted on swimming attire. No cotton t-shirts, “cut-offs”, jeans, or pants of any kind, are permitted.
- Any child not fully potty trained, must wear a swim diaper in the pool. Normal diapers and ‘pullups’ are not permitted.
- Running, ‘horse play’, or any other unsafe behavior is prohibited.
- Extended breath holding and breath holding games is prohibited.
- Persons with skin irritations or disease, open wounds, nasal or ear discharge, inflamed eyes, diarrhea, or any communicable disease, are not allowed in the pool.
- No pets are permitted (service dogs are permitted in the facility, but are not permitted in the swimming pools, hot tub, or splash pad).
- No freelance coaching and/or instruction.
- The following items are prohibited:
- Glass containers and breakable objects
- Food & Drink, including chewing gum, is not to be consumed on the pool decks.
- Outside Food or Drink. Concessions are available at the south end of building on the 1st floor.
- Rubber balls, Frisbees, and water guns
- Water wings, swim sweaters with inner tubes, or inflatable infant rafts
- Inflatable tubes or rafts
Locker Rooms
The Hampton Virginia Aquaplex is not responsible for any lost or stolen items. Lockers are available for use both inside and at the Splashdown Park. Locks are not provided.
Children over the age of 5 years are not permitted in locker rooms of the opposite sex. Family changing rooms are available for use. During scheduled swim and dive meets, only participating athletes are allowed in the locker rooms. The men and women’s restrooms adjacent to the locker rooms, are for public use during meets.
Use of Personal Flotation Devices
Only United States Coast Guard approved personal flotation “jackets” and “puddle jumpers” are permitted at the Hampton VA Aquaplex and Splashdown Park.
- Children using personal flotation devices require direct one-on-one adult supervision.
- Flotation jackets are permitted only in the designated shallow areas.
- Inflatable tubes and rafts are not permitted as swimming aids.
- The Hampton Virginia Aquaplex and Splashdown Park has US Coast Guard approved lifejackets available to use on a first come, first served basis.
Competition Pool Rules
Any persons under the age of 18 must complete a swim test conducted by a lifeguard to swim in the competition pool. Swim tests consist of the following tasks:
- Swim 25 yards continuously, either front crawl or breast stroke
- Tread water for 1 minute
No life jackets or floatation devices are permitted in the Competition Pool.
To use the 1 – Meter diving board individuals much check in with Lifeguard staff prior to use.
Use of the 3 – Meter high diving boards are not permitted. These boards may only be used during a scheduled diving practice or event.
Use of starting blocks is not permitted. Starting blocks may only be used during a scheduled practice or event.
Program Pool Rules
No diving in the program pool.
No sitting on the blue dividing wall.
No hanging off ramp, stair, and ladder railings.
Hot Tub Rules
Children under the age of 6 are not permitted in the hot tub.
Max capacity for the hot tub is 7 individuals.
No life jackets or floatation devices are permitted in the hot tub.
No horseplay.
Use of electronic devices, including cell phones, are prohibited while using the hot tub.
Splash Park Rules
No dunking or hanging from basketball hoops.
No diving or flips in any area.
No jumping over benches or off ledges.
Slides on the play structure must be ridden one at a time. All persons are to ride slides feet first, sitting on their bottoms. No climbing of the slide.
Sitting or standing on the center “island” in the Lazy River.
Pool noodles, balls, frisbees, inflatable tubes/rafts, fins, kickboards and water guns are prohibited.
Running, horse play, or any unsafe behavior is prohibited.
Water Slide Rules
Minimum height requirement to ride the two large water slides is forty-eight (48”) inches.
Slides are not to be used by individuals weighing over three-hundred (300) pounds.
Only one person is permitted to ride down a single slide at a time.
Adults are strictly prohibited from riding with a child on their lab.
Lifejackets, goggles, and loose items are prohibited down the slide.
Riders are to wait until instructed by staff, to ride down the slide.
Users must slide in a position of feet first while lying on backs with arms crossed over chests and legs crossed at the ankles.
No standing, sitting, kneeling, rotating, tumbling, stalling, and stopping, are strictly prohibited while riding down the slide.
No standing or sitting in the slide flume pool.
